Conclusion.

The lesson format is used throughout the two days, with frequent use of question and answer techniques and problem solving, so as to pace the learning according to the learners needs. We make great use of visual imagery, and keep things simple by cutting out the jargon.

Evaluation of learning takes place during the afternoon of the second day. Including lunch, around three hours are allocated for this activity. The learners work in groups, solving the ECG's included in the workbook, it should be noted the 12 lead ECG's include fictitious patients, to ensure the learners consider the whole clinical picture, and not just the ECG.

During this period I frequently check progress and method of interpretation. The day is concluded by discussing the answers with the whole class.

Though this method of evaluation is informal it has advantages; it's less threatening than formal testing, individuals are given the opportunity to ask questions in a less open setting, and there is an element of competition between groups.

With around 16000 health care staff from A&E Consultant to Health Care Assistant attending, this is a truly multidisciplinary course.
